Job Description
A growing and multifaceted community center in Sterling, AK, is seeking a part-time office administrator to work Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Under the direction of the SCC Board of Directors, the office administrator will manage and oversee the daily functions of SCC programs and facilities. Duties will include, but are not limited to, welcoming and assisting members, visitors, and program participants, answering and addressing phone calls and emails, directing and overseeing volunteers, maintaining class, program, and event registrations, member databases, electronic calendars, website, and social media accounts. The administrator also assists with the development of reports, newsletters, publicity, program and promotional materials, event planning, and implementation. The SCC Office Administrator will prepare reports and maintain communication with the SCC Board of Directors on a regular basis.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, a professional public image, be self-motivated, goal-oriented, and be a flexible team player who can work in a highly collaborative yet independent environment. Applicants should exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills. Computer skills should include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Google apps, graphics, database, group messaging, and social media. Experience in basic office equipment functions, like fax machines and printers, is also necessary. Website experience is helpful. Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently, multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Previous nonprofit and/or community experience is helpful. If selected for interview, computer skills testing may be administered. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and perform other physical aspects of the job, such as moving tables, chairs, and equipment.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Greet customers, receive, and respond to phone calls, and relay messages when necessary.

Provide general information about the facility to the public.

Respond to inquiries regarding hourly rental space, schedule room rentals, collect, record, and deposit rental deposits and payments.

Enter daily sales and other income into the cash register.

Prepare bi-weekly deposits and bi-weekly packets for the SCC bookkeeper.

Process payments for classes, memberships, events, and donations.

Create documents, flyers, and signs for programs and events.

Type correspondence and maintain files.

Oversee sign-in of members, participants, volunteers, class instructors, workers, etc.

Assist in updates of the organization’s newsletter submissions, website, and social media outlets.

Collaborate with other community agencies.

Oversee facility maintenance and daily cleaning.

Oversee the lending library and public computer area to ensure the use policy is adhered to.

Prepare rooms for instructors and programs, opening up on time and locking after the events.

Effectively manage and collaborate with coworkers and visitors in a friendly and competent manner under stressful conditions during busy periods.

Must be able to meet frequent deadlines.

Must remain flexible to job duty assignments as SCC programs are constantly evolving.

Must be able to take instruction and perform activities as described above.
This position performs many general office duties in a community center setting. The responsibilities listed above are intended only as examples of the various types of work that may be assigned. SCC requires a 30-day probationary period at the hiring date, followed by a 60-day and 90-day performance evaluation. If, for any reason, you and the job are not a good fit, you or the SCC board of directors may terminate the position without notice.
